Volcanic Experience

This experience is designed for guests who want to understand São Miguel through its volcanic origin, not only by seeing the landscape but by learning how to read it. Set within the protected areas of Lagoa do Fogo and Serra de Água de Pau, it reveals the island as a living volcanic system shaped by fire, water, altitude and time.

Rather than approaching geology in a technical or distant way, the experience connects volcanic processes with the identity of the island. Guests are invited to explore how eruptions, crater formation, underground heat and water helped shape São Miguel's landscapes and the way people relate to them.

The experience includes a trail through the volcanic landscape of Lagoa do Fogo Nature Reserve, where native and endemic vegetation can be found. Along the day, volcanic interpretation is combined with moments of rest and wellbeing, including lunch and a thermal bath, creating a fuller experience of the island's natural forces.
