Trail overview
This guided trail explores the southern approach to Lagoa do Fogo, one of São Miguel's most remarkable volcanic landscapes. Following the official PRC02 SMI route, the walk crosses rural paths, old water channels, native vegetation and open viewpoints before reaching the shoreline of the lake.
Set within the volcanic massif of Serra de Água de Pau, a protected area for the management of habitats and species, this is a trail that combines scenery, geology and vegetation.
It is a rewarding full-day hike for guests who want more than a viewpoint stop and prefer to experience Lagoa do Fogo on foot, at a slower and more meaningful pace.
